Pomme: Pomme is a French folk singer. I’ve listened to her casually for a while now, but I feel like I only properly became a fan this month after seeing her live in concert and then taking the subsequent deeper dive into her discography. While I was doing that, she cemented my fandom by releasing a duet of “Seabed Eden” with Ichiko Aoba—one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite musicians. I should’ve bought a t-shirt!

The Music of Mother: Shigesato Itoi’s company Hobonichi has been all about Mother series merchandise these last few years; here, they’ve produced a concert for the 30th anniversary of Mother 2. I once flew across the country for a Mother/EarthBound fan convention, so a livestreamed concert was an easy sell! I especially enjoyed Hip Tanaka’s DJ set and Miu Sakamoto’s guest vocals. I wish other video game franchises got the same attention that Hobonichi lavishes on Mother.

Giants vs Cardinals at Rickwood Field: Framed as “a tribute to the Negro Leagues,” this was a combination baseball game and history lesson. Major League Baseball has made several recent attempts to reckon with its segregated history—the Negro Leagues story modes in MLB: The Show, say, or the integration of Negro League statistics into their official records last month—and this felt like one of the more successful ones. I’d be happy if Bob Kendrick were in the broadcast booth telling stories every game.
