Tufts ranting.
I always liked reading rants like this, so I figured I’d post mine. This is an email I sent to Tufts Residential Life after tonight’s housing lottery:
I am very upset at the way the general housing lottery was conducted.
It shouldn’t be that complicated. You know how many sophomores there will be. You know how many rooms there are. Yes, my roommate and I had a relatively bad number, and I understand that there will be slim pickings. Regardless, to have half of the sophomore class standing in Cousens, knowing that most of them will not get rooms with the amount you have alloted, is inexcusable.
For whatever reason, the lottery took a very long time. Your system was so inefficient that our time was called nearly an hour late; we then stood on line for perhaps 20 minutes while someone walked to the ResLife office and opened up “more rooms” (which turned out to be a whopping three doubles). I even saw people cutting others in line to get their rooms faster. It seems trivial to have an additional few people ahead of you, but my roommate and I were literally the next people to get a room when it was announced that the remaining males would have to join the waitlist. Perhaps actually using the lottery numbers that you assigned us would be a good idea in the future.
I have better things to be doing than standing around for an hour and a half, especially for no reason. The Tufts student body deserves better.

I just hope they don’t make me bomb my Psych exam tomorrow.
